Tip Calculator
Tip, total, and split per person.
Calculate the tip amount, total bill and per-person split for any group size.
How it works
The tip is the bill multiplied by your chosen percentage; the total is bill plus tip, and the per-person amount divides that total evenly by the number of people.
When it helps
Makes splitting a restaurant bill with friends quick and fair.
Worked example
A dinner bill of 84 with a 15% tip: the tip is 84 × 0.15 = 12.60 and the total is 96.60. Split between three people, each pays 32.20. At 20%, the tip would be 16.80 and each person would pay 33.60.
If you'd like a round number, use the per-person result as a guide and round up — it's quicker than adjusting the percentage.
Tipping customs vary
In the United States, 15–20% at sit-down restaurants is standard and service staff rely on it. In much of Europe, service is often included or a small round-up of 5–10% is common. In Turkey, leaving about 10% in restaurants is customary, and in Japan tipping is generally not expected and can even cause confusion.
Before tipping, check the receipt for a service charge. If one has been added, an extra tip is usually optional.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
Customs vary a lot by country, from none to 20% or more. Check local norms.
Should I tip on the amount before or after tax?
Many people tip on the pre-tax amount, but either is common.
What if people ordered very different amounts?
An even split is simplest, but you can also calculate each person's share separately by entering their part of the bill with one person.
