How it works

Every value is converted through seconds, using fixed lengths: 60 seconds per minute, 60 minutes per hour, 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.

When it helps

Useful for converting durations for project planning, timers, video lengths or programming timeouts given in milliseconds.

Fixed units only

The units in this tool always have the same length: a minute is 60 seconds, an hour is 3,600 seconds, a day is 86,400 seconds and a week is 604,800 seconds. Months and years are left out on purpose, because a month can be 28 to 31 days and a year 365 or 366.

Milliseconds are included because programmers often see timeouts and delays written that way, for example 30000 ms for a 30-second timeout.

Worked examples

A 90-minute film is 1.5 hours or 5,400 seconds. A 1,000,000-second countdown is about 11.6 days. A project estimated at 120 working hours, at 8 hours per day, is 15 working days — note that this tool converts calendar hours, so 120 hours equals exactly 5 full days.
