Text Reverser

Flip your text by character or word.

Reverse text character-by-character, or reverse the order of the words.

How it works

Character mode reverses the order of every character in your text; word mode keeps each word intact but reverses the order of the words.

When it helps

Fun for puzzles, mirror-style messages, checking palindromes, or testing how software handles text.

Two kinds of reversal

Character mode flips the text completely, so 'Hello world' becomes 'dlrow olleH'. Word mode keeps every word readable but reverses their order, so the same text becomes 'world Hello'. Punctuation stays attached to the word it was next to, which can look odd at the start of a reversed sentence.

Character mode is what you want for mirror writing and palindrome checks; word mode is handy for reversing lists or creating word puzzles.

Checking palindromes

To test whether a phrase is a palindrome, reverse it in character mode and compare. Classic palindromes usually ignore spaces, punctuation and capital letters, so 'A man, a plan, a canal: Panama' only matches once those are removed.

Developers also use reversed text to test how apps handle unusual input, and teachers use it for spelling and reading games.

Frequently asked questions

What's a palindrome?

A word or phrase that reads the same backwards, like 'level' or 'racecar'.

Does it handle emoji?

Most emoji reverse correctly, but some combined emoji may split into their parts.

Can it reverse each line separately?

Line breaks are reversed along with everything else in character mode. For line-by-line results, reverse one line at a time.
