Random Number Generator
A random integer in any range.
Generate a cryptographically random integer between a minimum and maximum value.
How it works
A whole number between your minimum and maximum (inclusive) is picked using the browser's cryptographically secure random generator, so every value in the range has the same chance.
When it helps
Useful for raffles, games, choosing a winner, picking a random item from a list, or classroom activities.
Fair draws
The generator uses your browser's cryptographic random source rather than the simpler Math.random(), and it avoids the subtle bias that can appear when random values are squeezed into a range. Every whole number between your minimum and maximum has exactly the same chance.
Each draw is independent. Getting 7 twice in a row doesn't make 7 less likely next time — that's the gambler's fallacy.
Practical uses
To pick a raffle winner, number the entries from 1 to N and draw once. To choose a random item from a list, number the list and use its length as the maximum. Teachers use it to pick students, and game hosts use it in place of dice — set 1 to 6 for a standard die or 1 to 20 for a D20.
For a draw that others need to trust, do it live on screen or record it, so everyone can see the result wasn't chosen.
Frequently asked questions
Is it truly random?
It uses a cryptographically secure generator, which is unpredictable enough for games and draws.
Are the minimum and maximum included?
Yes, both ends of the range can be drawn.
Can I generate several numbers without repeats?
Each draw is independent, so repeats are possible. For unique picks, draw again whenever a number comes up twice.
