PNG to JPG Converter

Flatten a PNG onto white and export as JPEG.

Convert a PNG image to JPEG format, flattening transparency onto a white background.

How it works

The PNG is drawn onto a white canvas in your browser and exported as a JPEG. Any transparent areas become white, because JPEG doesn't support transparency.

When it helps

JPEG files are often much smaller for photos and are accepted almost everywhere.

PNG versus JPG

PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it ideal for logos, icons, screenshots and anything with sharp edges or text. JPEG uses lossy compression tuned for photographs, where it typically produces files several times smaller than PNG with no visible difference.

If you have a photo saved as PNG — for example a screenshot of a picture or an image exported from an editor — converting it to JPG is often the easiest way to reduce its size.

What happens to transparency

JPEG has no transparent pixels, so transparent and semi-transparent areas are placed on a white background before conversion. A logo on a transparent background will therefore appear on a white rectangle.

If the image will be shown on a dark or colored background, keep the PNG, or prepare a version with the right background color in an image editor first.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose quality?

JPEG uses lossy compression, so some detail is lost, but it's usually hard to see for photos.

Should I convert logos and screenshots?

PNG is often better for graphics with sharp edges or text.

Is the file uploaded to convert it?

No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser, so private images never leave your device.
