Numerology
Numbers have been telling stories for 3,000 years.
Enter your full name and birth date to calculate your Life Path and Destiny numbers.
How it works
Your Life Path number is found by adding all the digits of your birth date and reducing the sum to a single digit, keeping the master numbers 11, 22 and 33. Your Destiny (Expression) number converts each letter of your full name to a number using the Pythagorean chart (A=1 through I=9, repeating) and reduces the total the same way.
When it helps
People use numerology as a reflective, just-for-fun lens on personality traits, similar to reading a horoscope.
A worked example
Take a birth date of 14 July 1990. The tool adds every digit of the date: 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 + 7 + 1 + 4 = 31. Since 31 is more than one digit, it adds again: 3 + 1 = 4. The Life Path number is 4. If a sum lands on 11, 22 or 33 along the way, the reduction stops there, because those are treated as master numbers.
For the Destiny number, every letter of the name gets a value from the Pythagorean chart: A, J, S = 1; B, K, T = 2; C, L, U = 3; D, M, V = 4; E, N, W = 5; F, O, X = 6; G, P, Y = 7; H, Q, Z = 8; I, R = 9. The values are added up and reduced the same way. Spaces, hyphens and digits are ignored.
What the numbers are said to mean
In numerology tradition, 1 is linked to independence and leadership, 2 to cooperation and sensitivity, 3 to creativity and expression, 4 to structure and hard work, 5 to freedom and change, 6 to responsibility and care, 7 to reflection and analysis, 8 to ambition and material success, and 9 to compassion and idealism. The master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are read as more intense versions of 2, 4 and 6.
The Life Path number is described as the broad theme of your life, while the Destiny number is said to reflect the talents you express. Many people find it most interesting to compare the two.
A note on non-English letters
The Pythagorean chart only covers the 26 letters A–Z. Letters such as ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü, ä or ß aren't in the chart and are skipped. If your name contains them, you can try writing it with the closest basic letters (for example ş as s) and compare the results.
Frequently asked questions
Which name should I enter?
Traditionally, the full name given at birth. You can compare it with the name you use today.
What are master numbers?
11, 22 and 33 are kept unreduced in numerology because they're considered especially significant.
Is numerology scientific?
No. Numerology is a centuries-old tradition, not a science, and there's no evidence that these numbers predict personality or events. Enjoy it as a reflective, entertaining exercise.
Why do other calculators give a different Life Path number?
Some methods reduce the day, month and year separately before adding them. Most of the time the final number is the same, but the two methods can disagree on whether you land on a master number.
