Meta Tag Generator

Title, description and Open Graph tags, ready to paste.

Generate a ready-to-paste block of title, description, canonical, Open Graph and Twitter Card meta tags for a page.

How it works

From the title, description, URL and image you enter, the tool builds the standard HTML meta tags plus Open Graph (used by Facebook, LinkedIn and others) and Twitter Card tags, ready to paste into your page's <head>.

When it helps

Good meta tags control how your page appears in search results and when shared on social media.

What each tag does

The title tag is the clickable headline in search results and the text in the browser tab. The meta description is the short summary underneath; search engines may rewrite it, but a good one often gets used. The canonical link tells search engines which URL is the main version of a page, which avoids duplicate-content problems.

Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url) control the preview card on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and many other apps, and Twitter Card tags do the same for X.

Writing tags that get clicks

Put the most important words at the start of the title and keep it under about 60 characters. Write the description as a clear, honest summary of what the page offers, ideally with a reason to click, in about 150–160 characters.

Every page should have its own title and description — reusing the same text across a site makes pages compete with each other. After publishing, test your link in each platform's preview tool, because social networks cache previews.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a meta description be?

Around 150–160 characters, so it isn't cut off in search results.

What size should the share image be?

1200 × 630 pixels is a widely recommended size.

Do meta keywords still matter?

No. Major search engines have ignored the meta keywords tag for years, so this tool doesn't generate it.
