DNS Lookup
Look up A, MX, TXT and other DNS records.
Look up DNS records (A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME) for any domain, via Cloudflare's public DNS resolver.
How it works
Queries are sent to Cloudflare's public DNS-over-HTTPS resolver, which returns the current records for the domain: A (IPv4), AAAA (IPv6), MX (mail), TXT, NS (name servers) and CNAME (aliases).
When it helps
Useful for checking a new domain setup, verifying email records like SPF, or troubleshooting a website that won't load.
The record types
A records map a domain to an IPv4 address and AAAA records to an IPv6 address — together they tell browsers where a website lives. MX records list the mail servers that receive email for the domain. NS records name the servers responsible for the domain's DNS. CNAME records make one name an alias of another, often used for 'www' or for services like a hosted shop.
TXT records hold text used for verification and email security. An SPF record starting with v=spf1 lists who may send email for the domain, and DMARC records live at _dmarc.yourdomain.
Common checks
After moving a website to a new host, look up the A record to see whether it already points to the new server. If emails aren't arriving, check the MX records. If a service like Google or a mail provider asks you to verify ownership, look up the TXT records to confirm your verification code is published.
Each record has a TTL (time to live) that tells resolvers how long to cache it. Lowering the TTL a day before a planned change makes the switch spread faster.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't I see my new records yet?
DNS changes can take time to spread, depending on the TTL of the old records.
What are TXT records used for?
Domain verification and email security settings such as SPF and DMARC.
Why do I get different results than my colleague?
Resolvers cache records, so during a change some networks may still show the old value until its TTL expires.
